WEEKEND WORKSHOPS:
"Befriend Your Inner Critic and Turn It Into Your Ally"
What is the Inner Critic?
The Inner Critic stems from messages we picked up from our parents and other authority figures in childhood and is a distorted part of our Inner Parent. We most commonly know it as the little (or not so little?) voice inside us that tells us that we are not OK or up to scratch. Things the Inner Critic wants us to believe about ourselves are:
I'm not good enough - I'm stupid - I'm ugly - There is something wrong with me I can't do anything right - I'm not lovable - People don't like me - etc.
What does the Inner Critic Do to Us?
The Inner Critic makes us feel anxious, it depresses us, inhibits our creativity and has a very destructive effect on our relationships. Because it stirs up feelings of shame and attacks the most vulnerable and innocent part of us, we tend to ignore it, repress it or try hard to make it go away. Frequently we even feel ashamed of having an Inner Critic!!!
But, however hard we would like to, we neither can nor want to get rid of our Inner Critic. It is part and parcel of our "internal parent", which is both an essential and valuable aspect of our being that helps us distinguish right from wrong, nurture and support us, etc.
The Aim of The Workshop
This is mainly an experiential workshop that aims to provide a safe environment in which you can explore the Inner Critic on a general and personal level. We look at how and why it develops and you will find out a variety of ways in which you can begin to transform it and turn it into an ally in the form of a positive, nurturing and supportive Inner Parent that will help you to live in a more flowing, constructive and creative way.
